WASABI BLUES - live video experiment

A video still of a party goer eating Wasabi at Team Plastic Party, Berlin, 5 April 07. She was asked to sit in front of the camera and try not to make a face whilst she swallowed some Wasabi - the strong green paste which makes people wince or even cry.

April 2007 was a month of deep loss and tears for Celine... When invited to perform at Team Plastic Party, she thought she'd invite people to come and join her in her crying. Amazed at how her face looked distorted by waterfalls of tears she was hypercurious at how other's looked when they cried. To follow the japanese tradition of dedicating the corner of a household to the Dark Side, Celine chose the darkest corner in the lightest of parties to set up a green backdrop and a camera on a tripod. Dressed in bright green, she held a mountain of Wasabi paste on a plate and proposed to party goers to come and cry too.
